I’ve lived in Singapore for seven years now, and have been lucky enough to have been able to travel around Asia.

There is something about the neatness and regularity of rice terraces that appeals to me, so here are some of my favorite images. In many places rice is still planted and harvested by hand, due to the terrain, and it’s incredibly manually intensive. It is hard to capture that in a snapshot, but I tried.

There are also Macaques everywhere. I have a banana tree outside of my backdoor and they have an unerring sense of when the bananas are ripe enough to come and steal them, normally the night before I intend to pick them.

Lizards are everywhere and I love my house geckos, though they are hard to catch with the camera.

Settings and Approach

Same as for landscape photography.

Singapore and Indonesia offer a different challenge with light than other locations. Given how near to the equator they are, the sun takes what seems like only a few minutes to rise and set, and golden hour is more like a golden ten minutes, so you have to be quick if you want that beautiful golden light and long shadows.
