Road to Nowhere
I must admit I largely try and take pictures where human influence is minimized or just out of shot, as humans are confusing and messy to me. However, I have started to embrace the impact of a good road on leading into the image or setting the scale of the landscape.
Settings and Approach
50 mm lens, or wider for epic landscapes
Aperture Priority, set to f/22 or f/3.5 depending on light conditions
Challenges: Our old friend, light direction. Shooting in, or post processing to, black and white, can create stunning images that would be a bit ‘meh’ in colour, due to the light being to harsh and not being able to balance exposure. The monochrome road and markings helps with the overall balance.
